Treatment Coordinator Phillissia
The words of Maya Angelou said it best “My mission in life is not merely to survive, but to thrive; and to do so with some passion, some compassion, some humor, and some style.” I believe this concept encompasses who I am and my purpose in life. Thus, it led me to relocate from the Big Apple to the beautiful state of North Carolina two years ago beginning a new chapter from my routine life in New York City. I was born and raised in The Bronx under a West Indian and African American household by two wonderful parents who instilled values, good moral standards and a huge love for God and neighbor and that molded me to be perfect in the field of dentistry, where patience, empathy, kindness and compassion are involved to better the experience of an anxious patient.
Surprisingly, dentistry was not even on my list of career options, it’s actually quite comical because I had zero interest in the dental world. In high school my major was advertisement, I attended The High School of Art and Design a career and technical education high school in Manhattan, New York City. During my last year of high school I lost interest in my major which left me indecisive about what I would do after I graduated from high school. After speaking with a family friend who suggested going to school to become a dental assistant I decided to attend Westchester School for Dental Assistants and there I began my journey in dentistry.
I interned at Smile Dental of New Rochelle and then was offered a full time position in 2006. I grew into my position and later became a Treatment Coordinator for four years. As life always does it changed and I moved on to North Shore Restorative & Implant Dentistry in Roslyn, New York. I loved working with my team and my patients; I grew strong lasting bonds with my team members and patients. Humorously enough, this is where I got my nickname Phil, it wasn’t a family given name it was a dentist given name since everyone had a hard time pronouncing my name, one day out of the blue he said “I’m going to start calling you Phil because you fill in the schedule” we shared our laughs and from then on I tell everyone to call me Phil. Although I loved my job the fast pace of New York City was taking away from my quality of life and I felt like it was time to slow down the pace and start anew.
To new beginnings! I moved to North Carolina June 20, 2015 ready and open to new experiences. Despite being homesick occasionally, I found that my relocation has allowed me to live in my purpose. It took me over a year to settle in but I officially feel at home and more so working as a Patient Care Coordinator with Dr. Kofford and his team here at Cary Prosthodontics. It was destined to be, as I walked into the office for my interview hearing Disney music playing in the background, if anyone knows me knows I am obsessed with Disney because secretly I have an amazing voice and I love to sing. Becoming a team member with Cary Prosthodontics is definitely a perfect fit because I can live passionately, compassionately and humorously with patients. I have remained in this field for 10 years because of my love for people and helping others. I admire the positive impact dentistry has on people’s lives. Dentistry is more than technique it is an art that alters lives, smiles and improves a person’s way of life. I am glad to be a part of a profession that not only changes smiles but builds confidence within. I look forward to serving the Triangle area with my team members at Cary Prosthodontics.

"Simply the BEST! It is a terrifying prospect to have your teeth removed. Not only the pain but the the reality that you will have to go into the world with plastic teeth in your mouth for the rest of your life. I came to Dr. Kofford filled with trepidation. He immediately put me at ease. His easy going, almost goofy, manner was comforting. But it is his skill building the denture that's the most amazing! No one knows I have false teeth! They're gorgeous! He is an artist. Simply brilliant."
"Wonderful experience. Love his sense of humor. I was very comfortable."
"Incredible attention to detail and perfection. My procedure was very well thought out and planned to the finest detail. I was extremely impressed with how well my implant procedure went and when I saw the bite wing afterwords, it was absolutely perfectly placed. Well done Dr. Kofford & Dr. Smith."
