Hygienist

Heidi

I was born and raised as an Idaho spud to loving parents. As a family we grew up adventuring in the outdoors, hiking through the mountains, and holding on for dear life down the rivers. With an older sister and a younger brother there was always teasing and a little competition! My parents instilled in us to live an honest life and always strive to choose the right.  We grew up always hearing “choices – choices”! My mother wanted my siblings and I to be aware that every choice we made truly mattered. She instilled in me that I was on earth for a specific purpose. I’m so grateful for the direction their guidance has given my life.

From a young age I knew that I wanted to be a dental hygienist! My mother was a dental assistant and planted the idea in my mind. Next to becoming a wife and mother the goal and dream of becoming a dental hygienist was my focus. I’ve always been a smiley, social person and I love seeing others smile with confidence.

After graduating from Eagle High School, I attended Brigham Young University in Idaho (BYU-I).  I received my associates degree in general studies which fulfilled my prerequisites to apply to dental hygiene programs. My idea of attending hygiene school and keeping my roots planted in the west all changed when I fell in love with a young man.
He was graduating a semester before me and moving to a beautiful place called North Carolina. It was only 2,463 miles away but who was counting...me! Let me say distance did make the heart grow fonder and one semester later we were ready to commit and be together forever! My husband Monte and I were married in Idaho and spent our first big adventure which was also known as our honeymoon, road tripping by driving across the USA moving this Idaho spud thousands of miles from what I knew as home.

I attended Wake Technical Community College in Raleigh where I graduated with an Associate Degree in Dental Hygiene (AAS). After living in Raleigh for 6 years Monte and I relocated to Richmond, VA for his job with Bayer Crop Science.  Nine months later our little Virginia peanut was born. We were blessed with a little girl who we love to call “Brookeeee.” Almost three years later we worked our way back to Carolina and had our North Carolina sweet potato, Baby Kate. Eleven years in the south and I have learned that “home” is wherever you choose make it and be together.  I have absolutely loved planting my Idaho spud roots here and enjoy calling Carolina my home.

The beach has become a new playground for me. I now love feeling sand between my toes, the peaceful sounds of waves crashing and the hunt for the perfect sea shells. Land locked Idaho didn’t have that to offer. The beach now holds wonderful memories for me.  I am so grateful to call this beautiful state of Carolina my home.

Hear What Our Happy Patients Say

"Simply the BEST! It is a terrifying prospect to have your teeth removed. Not only the pain but the the reality that you will have to go into the world with plastic teeth in your mouth for the rest of your life. I came to Dr. Kofford filled with trepidation. He immediately put me at ease. His easy going, almost goofy, manner was comforting. But it is his skill building the denture that's the most amazing! No one knows I have false teeth! They're gorgeous! He is an artist. Simply brilliant."
